A VOLUNTEER PLEASE!
Is anyone going to the Dutch motorcycle Grand Prix in Assen in June? I ask because I can think of no other reason why anyone should want to check out the Harberg café in Borger (10 Hoofdstraat), 15km ESE of Assen on the N34. Dutch regulars will know that everything north of Nijmegen is bandit country and that no respectable beer lover would venture there without a camper van and couple of crates of carry-outs. However, the Harberg was recently a runner-up in a national competition to find the best café in the Netherlands (won incidentally by our old friend the Poshoorn in Maastricht). Despite the fact that this is rural Drenthe, a place as drenched in beer as the market square in old Kabul, the café was commended on its range of special beers. If you're passing ...
