This section offers three different pronunciations for the terms below. Why do that? Well, if you were in Texas and wanted some ribs, you wouldn't ask for barbe a queue. Yet that is the authentic way to describe food cooked on a spit. Barbeque is the Americanized version of a French term. They mean the same thing, but if you asked for barbeque in France the spit would be on you not in you. If you asked for barbe a queue in Texas the ribs they handed you would probably be your own! Both are correct given their cultural contexts. So it is with beer.

Avoid the indignity of asking a bar tender for a "goose" instead of a "gueuze"! The U.S. flag icons to the left are the Americanized versions - provided by Don Feinberg - and the Belgian flag icons on right are the way they sound in Flemish and French.
